Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
